Paul Nicholls has never won the Grand National, which is a very surprising statistic considering his dominance of National Hunt racing.
Now though the Ditcheat trainer has the two joint favourites in the betting following Big Fella Thanks‘ win in the Raymond Mould Supporting Greatwood Gold Cup on Saturday at Newbury.
The eight-year-old was impressive as he defeated his stablemate, the favourite Pasco. As a result of his victory his odds for success at Aintree have been cut to 12/1 (from 16/1). The 12/1 is the best price available at the time of writing.
In last year’s Grand National Big Fella Thanks impressed as a novice as he finished in sixth which proved he does have the stamina and jumping ability required to win the race.
He joins another Nicholls-trained horse at the top of the market, Tricky Trickster. His odds were cut following his Aon Chase win after Denman unseated Tony McCoy.
Therefore with Nicholls having the two 12/1 favourites among his entries will the champion trainer finally be able to break his duck in the Grand National?
