Denman looking good for Gold Cup

Cheltenham Gold Cup defending champion, Denman, is firming in the betting after a promising workout last week.

Denman made a disappointing comeback from injury last month when he was defeated by Madisdon du Berlais in the Levy Board Chase at Kempton Racecourse.

However, increasing numbers of punters are starting to see his Kempton capitulation as a sign of rustiness rather than a realistic indication of what he could achieve in the Gold Cup.

Amongst those backing Denman to retain his Gold Cup title is one of his owners, Harry Findlay, who was upbeat about his horse after watching him work out last week.

“He worked well on Saturday morning on the all-weather gallop but this was much more important as the plan was always to school him over the outdoor fences,” Findlay told At The Races. “We all spoke afterwards and we were happy to go with the green light.”

“The best thing about it for everyone was the enthusiasm he showed. He is a real character but he looked very happy and barring any accident, he will be a runner in the Gold Cup.”
