Denman Profile
With William Hill pricing Kauto Star at 11/10 to take the 2008 Cheltenham Gold Cup, there is only one horse in the running priced anywhere close to the French champion. Ireland’s bet for the 2008 Cheltenham Gold Cup is Denman, currently priced by William Hill at 6/4. In this post Cheltenham Gold Cup Betting will profile the racehorse most likely to cause an upset on Gold Cup day.
Denman Record and Statistics
Born and bred in Ireland, Denman is of fine racing stock. He is the half-brother of Potter’s Bay and Potter’s Gale, both excellent jump racehorses in their own rights. Owned by Paul Barber and Mrs M Findlay, Denman is one of the highest rated racehorses in trainer Paul Nicholls’ stables.
Denman boasts one of the finest records in national hunt racing. He began his career over hurdles, taking 4 wins and a second place finish from 5 starts. In 2006 Denman moved into steeplechases and dominated all the novice chases in which he participated.
At the 2007 Cheltenham Festival Denman won his first Class 1 race when he won the Royal & Sun Alliance Chase, beating 2008 Grand National contender Snowy Morning by 10 lengths in the process. Denman has not lost a steeplechase in eight starts, and since moving out of the novices races has never won a race by less than 4 lengths.
